!!!!Bees!!!!!

Hey everyone, what is the meaning of the bees and how they relate to Lily?  Sue Monk Kidd started of by telling us what the bees did in Lily room but why is it so significant? Ms. Farmer even made us do a presentation about bees!!!
I think Lily likes the bees because she said in Sylvan ( her home town )that she felt Deborah's (her mother) presents when the bees enter the room. I also think that Lily needs a Mother figure in order to function, just like the bees. Lily wouldn't have run away if her mom was there.
There will probably be more on the bees later in the book.
                            ??????? Any thoughts??????

  1. I think Lily grows up just like a bee,she gets the qualities of bees gradually. She wants to get queen bee's (her mother)love just like a bee.She loves peace and works hard in order to get what she wants.

  2. Hey Wyatt, I believe that the bees represent the social hierarchy and life in the book. Lily is without a mother or "queenless" in a way which leads to how much disorder in her life. The drones in Lily's life is her dad who did nothing other than contribute his DNA and then seemingly abandons her.

  3. I totally agree with you that Lily wants to have a mother figure in her life, just like the bees. I think that the author uses the bee fact at the beginning of each chapter as foreshadowing for what is going to happen in the chapter. For example, the quote at the beginning of chapter 2 foreshadows that Lily is going to run away, as it says, "On leaving the old nest."
